Université du Québec Intersectoral Health Research Network

Established in 2019 following the Great Network Initiative (GIR) in health and social services through FODAR funding, the Regroupement intersectoriel en santé de l’Université du Québec (RISUQ) ceased operations in March 2025. RISUQ undeniably strengthened collaboration among researchers across the 10 institutions of the Université du Québec network. Emotional competence team

The research conducted by the ECE team focuses on emotional competence—specifically, how emotions are experienced, expressed, regulated, and communicated. The team seeks to understand how this competence contributes to the well-being and adaptation of individuals and families during various life transitions, as well as its protective role against adversity. The development of emotional competence notably promotes academic and professional success, family well-being, and positive relationships, while helping to reduce mental and physical health difficulties.

Health and Society Institute (ISS), from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)

Research put forward by the ISS contributes to improving the well-being and health of the population, with a strong focus on disadvantaged and marginalized groups. Health is defined here as: “An experience of physical and mental well-being and the capacity to act upon one’s environment, to participate fully in social and community life.” The research explores the determinants of health, falls within a perspective of promotion and prevention, and leads to an analytical and critical examination of health policies and services, as well as community initiatives. Finally, the research studies the social adaptation processes that enable members of a community to live in better physical and mental health.

Research Chair on Gender Differences at School (CRÉGÉ), UQAM

In most Western countries, educational inequalities favoring one gender or the other are observed. While girls perform better than boys in primary and secondary school, they remain underrepresented in certain fields traditionally associated with men, such as science. This program will document the progression and sources of gender differences related to students’ academic and professional achievement and interests. The findings will provide important theoretical foundations to better understand the complexity of gender differences in school and thus guide interventions aimed at achieving gender equality in education.
